 Poverty Esther's Story
|
A family lives on less than $2 a day; they're subsistence farmers but because of the drought in Swaziland, there hasn't been enough to feed the family. Seven people live in a one room mud hut where they sleep on the hard, dirt floor. The children pass time by making toys out of garbage while the parents endlessly worry about what is to come.
At seven years old, Esther is the eldest in the family and has four younger brothers and sisters. She hasn't been able to attend school because her mother needs help around the home. She spends her days carrying her siblings on her back while she walks miles through the African heat to draw water from the well in the nearby village.
Her family attends the local church on Sundays. They met a team of young missionaries there once and were told of a local care point. This care point sustains the family with everyday essentials such as food, clean water, clothing and hygiene items. Esther now attends a Christian school where she learns about Jesus and also gets an education.
